New Chicago Bulls point guard Zach LaVine, acquired in the trade that sent Jimmy Butler to Minnesota, is progressing well in his rehab.

The athletic LaVine was having a stellar campaign for the Timberwolves last year before suffering a season-ending ACL injury. At the ESPYs, he said he’s ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation and will be ready for training camp, per ESPN’s Marc J. Spears.

This is fantastic news for the Bulls and their new point guard. He’s improved every year since being selected 13th overall by Minnesota in 2014.

Perhaps best known for his amazing dunks, LaVine has the potential to develop into one of the best young guards in the Association if he can develop his jump shot and stay healthy. Last year, he averaged 18.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, three assists and 0.9 steals per game, averaging 45.9 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from behind the arc.

He’ll be a big part of Chicago’s rebuilding effort, which took place because general manager John Paxton decided the franchise was stuck in a rut.
