Twins bolster starting rotation, acquire Jaime Garcia

Jaime Garcia Atlanta Braves

The Minnesota Twins gave their starting rotation a much-needed upgrade on Monday when they acquired Jaime Garcia from the Atlanta Braves.

The trade has been close to happening for the better part of a week, but nearly fell through, as well.

Garcia is obviously the big name in this exchange. Nobody is kidding themselves into thinking the Garcia will be a front line ace in Minnesota. But even the 4.30 ERA is much better than the 4.92 ERA that the Twins’ starters have accrued throughout 2017 — the seventh worst total in the majors. Garcia will certainly fit right into the middle of the Minnesota rotation.

The Twins enter play on Monday in third place in the American League Central, but they are only 2.5 games behind the division leading Cleveland Indians. Additionally, Minnesota is only one game behind the Kansas City Royals and Tampa Bay Rays for the second Wild Card spot in the American League.
