Seahawks sign former Eagles first-round bust Marcus Smith

The Eagles have released first-round bust Marcus Smith

The Philadelphia Eagles waived 2014 first-round pick Marcus Smith earlier this week after three disastrous seasons with the team. How bad was Smith in Philadelphia? None of the league’s 31 other teams picked him up off the waiver wire.

Instead, the defending NFC West champion Seattle Seahawks signed the Louisville product on Saturday.

If any team can help Smith turn it around, it’s the Seahawks. With a strong foundation of leadership along the defensive line, Smith is definitely in good hands heading into the 2017 regular season. Seattle also needs depth from a pass-rush standpoint, so the fit couldn’t be better.

Smith, 25, recorded 18 tackles and just four sacks in three seasons with Philadelphia. He was selected 26th overall back in 2014, ahead of the likes of Derek Carr and Kelvin Benjamin.
