Richard Jefferson will return to Cavs for 2017-18 season

One of the big questions the Cleveland Cavaliers needed an answer to this offseason was whether Richard Jefferson would retire.

That question has been answered, as the veteran forward announced on his podcast Wednesday that he will be returning.

As noted by Alex Kennedy of HoopsHype, Jefferson will earn $2.5 million this upcoming season. The 17-year veteran’s contract runs out after the 2018-19 season, but his $2.6 million salary is non-guaranteed that season.

Last season, Jefferson was still a big part of what Cleveland did. He averaged over 20 minutes per game, posting 5.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and one assist per game.

Though, it’s worth noting that Jefferson’s shooting touch hasn’t been ideal the past couple of seasons. He hit just 33.3 percent from behind the arc last year.

The Cavaliers will be glad to have Jefferson back this season. But we suspect his role will continue to be tailored back a bit more early in the season, at the very least. He’s still a valuable player, but it’s clear his career is winding down, along with what he’s able to contribute.
