Report: Sixers continue spending spree, sign Amir Johnson to one-year, $11 million contract

The Philadelphia 76ers have reportedly signed Amir Johnson

Hours after coming to terms with J.J. Redick on a one-year, $23 million contract, the upstart Philadelphia 76ers are reportedly back at it again. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Philadelphia has signed forward Amir Johnson to a one-year, $11 million contract.

Johnson, 30, spent each of the past two years with the Boston Celtics. This past season saw him average 6.5 points and 4.6 rebounds while shooting at a 58 percent from the field. Johnson also started 77 of the 80 games in which he appeared.

Likely to be a top bench option this upcoming season, it remains to be seen what the addition of Johnson means for former top-five pick Jahlil Okafor, who has been on the trade block for some time. We can fully expect Philadelphia to entertain trade offers for the Duke product as a way to continue building up the team’s backcourt with Redick and rookie Markelle Fultz.
