Report: Heat sign former Celtics C Kelly Olynyk to four-year, $50 million deal

The Miami Heat didn’t wasted too long adding a veteran talent to the roster after missing out on Gordon Hayward. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Miami has signed former Boston Celtics center Kelly Olynyk to a four-year, $50 million contract.

Boston was forced to renounce Olynyk’s rights after the team signed Hayward away from the Utah Jazz earlier in the week.

The 26-year-old big man was a key cog for a Celtics team that earned the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference this past season. He averaged 9.0 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting at a 51 percent clip from the field. He also played a huge role in Boston’s closeout Game 7 win over the Washington Wizards in the conference semifinals, scoring 26 points on 10-of-14 from the field.

Olynyk will now team up with center Hassan Whiteside to form a solid one-two punch in the low post for Miami this upcoming season. This move was made possible by the Heat’s decision to waive Chris Bosh, who officially became an unrestricted free agent earlier on Thursday.
