Report: Giants to sign Pablo Sandoval

Pablo Sandoval has been one of the biggest surprises from MLB spring training this year

The Panda is back in the bay. On the very same day that the Boston Red Sox released third baseman Pablo Sandoval, it looks like his former San Francisco Giants team will sign the World Series hero.

Sandoval, 30, was released less than three full seasons into the five-year, $95 million deal he signed with Boston back in November of 2014. His time in Boston was marred by injuries, issues with his weight and a tremendous lack of overall production. Thus far this season, Sandoval is hitting just .212 with four homers and 12 RBI. All said, he posted a horrendous .237 average during his time in Boston.

For the Giants, a reunion definitely makes sense. Sandoval was one of the primary reasons San Francisco earned three World Series titles from 2010-14. He was also a cult hero among fans in Northern California.

Whether Sandoval can get his career back on track remains to be seen. But he’s now going to attempt a comeback within the friendly confines of an organization he knows so well.
