Report: Brewers interested in 2B Ian Kinsler

As the Milwaukee Brewers look to hold off the defending champion Chicago Cubs in the NL Central, the team has been busy looking for reinforcements.

Milwaukee was just linked to the recently traded Jose Quintana and Oakland Athletics starter Sonny Gray. Such a move might be necessary, especially considering Chicago is the team that landed the aforementioned Quintana.

But the Brewers are not solely in the market for starting pitching help. According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, Milwaukee is looking into the possibility of acquiring Detroit Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler.

This makes a ton of sense with Jonathan Villar struggling to do anything of substance from that position thus far this season. The veteran is hitting .223 with a dreadful .287 on-base percentage.

And while Kinsler’s .244/.324 split isn’t great in and of itself, the 35-year-old former All-Star would be a great addition to a surprising Brewers squad.

Milwaukee entered Saturday’s action one game ahead of Chicago in the NL Central. Adding a couple veterans between now and the July 31st trade deadline will be key for the team’s ability to stay with the defending champs moving forward.
