Report: Braves open to trading ace Julio Teheran

As is always the case, contending teams will be looking to improve their pitching rotations at the trade deadline. One surprising name who might be available is Atlanta Braves right hander Julio Teheran.

“The Braves seem to be willing to consider anything,” Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reported. “And while last year they eventually told teams that Teheran would be staying put (and he did), they haven’t absolutely ruled out a trade for Teheran to this point.”

Teheran is having a difficult season. He has a 5.14 ERA and 1.42 WHIP on the year, significantly worse than his 2016 marks of 3.21 and 1.05, as well as his career totals of 3.57 and 1.19.

Despite that, he should carry a great deal of value to most teams. Teheran’s 2017 troubles can mostly be attributed to struggling at the incredibly hitter-friendly SunTrust Park.

In nine starts at home, Teheran has posted a 7.58 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and a 1-6 record. In eight road starts, however, Teheran has a 2.88 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a perfect 5-0 record.

The Braves have overcome a horrible start to get to a more respectable 40-43 record. Still, Atlanta is 9.5 games out in the National League East and eight games out of the second Wild Card spot.
