Mark Cuban jokes about kidnapping Adam Silver to move to Eastern Conference

Mark Cuban

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban knows that in the Western Conference, his team is probably in for a tough few years. The Eastern Conference would offer a much clearer path to success and he knows just how to get there.

Speaking on ESPN, Cuban joked that he intends to kidnap NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, with a move to the Eastern Conference being the ransom.

One can only wonder how the prime years of Dirk Nowitzki would have gone differently if the Mavs did play in the East.

Cuban has had his issues with the NBA Front Office over the years. But this one might take the cake. Still, we can’t blame him for going there.

Dallas won 50 or more games for 11 straight seasons between the 2000-01 and 2010-11 seasons. The Mavericks did win one championship (2011) and appeared in another (2006) but qualified for the Western Conference Finals only one other time (2003) in that stretch.

Since Michael Jordan left the Chicago Bulls in 1998, the Western Conference has generally been deeper, especially at the top. Now, the Golden State Warriors have owned the conference for the last three years and are building a potential dynasty, while teams like the San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets, and Oklahoma City are quite formidable.

Playing in the East may just be the quickest ticket to success.
