Warriors set NBA playoffs record, even in defeat, during Game 4

Warriors

No, it wasn’t the perfect 16-0 record they were shooting for, but the Golden State Warriors did set an NBA playoff record during Game 4 against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Though the Warriors lost by the score of 137-116, Game 4 marked the 16th straight playoff game in which the Warriors scored at least 100 points.

With a 3-1 lead over Cleveland and a game at home Monday, Golden State can put a cherry on top of this brilliant campaign by closing out the series. No team has ever come back from being down three games to none in the NBA Finals, which is what the Cavaliers are trying to do after losing their first three games this series.

A beautiful offensive performance from behind the arc in Game 4, combined with a testy environment in which the referees controlled the game a bit too much led to the elimination-staving victory on Friday night. The Cavaliers were a bit extra motivated to win that game, thanks to what may or may not have been a dirty gesture by Stephen Curry at the end of Game 3.

It’s going to be fascinating to see what happens in Game 5. The Warriors had this series in the bag after three games. But lose two in a row and perhaps they start to panic a bit based on what happened last season. We can’t wait for tip-off, which is set for 9 p.m. ET Monday in Oakland.
