Report: Panthers appear ready to move on from Michael Oher

Michael Oher

Almost nine months ago, Carolina Panthers left tackle Michael Oher suffered a concussion playing in Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings. At this time, he is still in the NFL’s concussion protocol, and his tenure with the Panthers could soon come to an end.

Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer wrote that the Panthers appear ready to move on from Oher, who did show up to mandatory minicamp.

“The Panthers could save $4.5 million against the salary cap by cutting Oher, who would likely qualify for the maximum $1.1 million a year under the league’s injury protection benefit,” Person wrote. “Rivera didn’t say much about the situation last week, but he did not sound like a coach who expects to have Oher with him in Spartanburg.”

Recently, Oher (or someone else) posted a picture on Instagram of 10 pill bottles “all for the brain” that was quickly pulled down. He also was recently cited for misdemeanor assault of an Uber driver, indicating he’s dealing with some serious side effects stemming from the brain injury he suffered last September.

The subject of the famous movie, “Blind Side”, Oher’s football tale has taken a turn for the worst since that moment. Hopefully he recovers from his symptoms soon and is able to land on his feet as he figures out what to do in life after football.
