Report: LeBron James is second-highest-paid athlete in world behind Cristiano Ronaldo

LeBron James NBA championship Cleveland Cavaliers

LeBron James has worked hard to create a sustainable business model that will last long after he’s finished playing basketball. In addition to his endorsement deals, which are substantial, and his contract, which paid him over $30 million this past season, James is building an entertainment business and is working towards one day owning an NBA team.

So it’s not surprising that the Cleveland Cavaliers star is pulling in some serious earnings. In fact, there is only one athlete in the world who will earn more money than LeBron James in 2017, according to Forbes.

It’s interesting to note that there is only one NFL player among the top 10 (Andrew Luck), while there are four NBA players. It’s interesting because the NFL is the king of American sports in terms of ratings and overall interest.

It’s also pretty amazing that Roger Federer is still pulling in so much cash, even though he’s not winning tournaments at the rate he did in his younger years. Of all those among the top 10, the $58 million Federer is making on endorsements is the most, with James coming in closely behind at $55 million.

So kids, get out there and practice. Soccer and basketball are where the money’s at. Plus, as an added bonus, playing those sports will give you a better chance at a happy, healthy life after sports than the brutal game of football.
