Report: Lakers talking to teams about trading second pick

Will new Lakers president Magic Johnson change up the team's rebuilding plan?

The Los Angeles Lakers sit in a pretty darn good position heading into the 2017 NBA Draft. They are currently slated to pick second overall with former UCLA standout Lonzo Ball being the likeliest selection there.

With that said, new team president Magic Johnson may very well look to make a splash during the draft itself.

According to Tania Ganguli of the Los Angeles Times, the Lakers have taken calls about the second pick. More than that, first-year general manager Rob Pelinka has also made some calls about potentially dealing away the pick.

“The Lakers have been taking and making calls about trading the pick, said a source who requested anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject,” the report read. “They’ve had scenarios presented to them, and offered their own.”

It’s not yet known who the Lakers have spoken with. But the team has been linked to both Jimmy Butler and Paul George in trade scenarios over the past several months. Though, George himself may simply end up signing with the Lakers as a free agent next summer. This has led to reports indicating Los Angeles likely wouldn’t be willing to make a trade for him this summer.

In any event, the next week leading up to the 2017 NBA Draft will surely be interesting in Southern California.
