Report: Lakers not sold on Lonzo Ball at two

Big Baller Brand shoes, Lonzo Ball

It seems to be conventional wisdom that the Los Angeles Lakers and new president Magic Johnson will take former UCLA star Lonzo Ball with the second pick in June’s 2017 NBA Draft. Really, it just makes too much sense.

Assuming the Boston Celtics take Washington’s Markelle Fultz with the first pick (as expected), Ball would fall right on to the Lakers’ laps. A home-town boy with tremendous star power, the former Bruin could shape Los Angeles’ rebuild.

Though, there’s a lot more to look at here. Ball’s father, LaVar, has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. He continues to make noise, and has been nothing more than a nuisance for the younger Ball. At this point, it’s not yet known whether the Lakers want to take on this potential drama.

Now, according to one report, the Lakers themselves are not sold on Ball at No. 2. More than that, the idea of Ball staying in Southern California seems to be unrealistic.

For their part, the Lakers have also been linked to fellow point guard De’Aaron Fox out of Kentucky as well as former Kansas forward Josh Jackson.

Complicating things a bit further is the presence of D’Angelo Russell on the Lakers’ roster. He seems to be best suited to run the point, which would likely force the Lakers to trade him should they take either Ball or Fox.

Either way, this is most definitely an interesting story heading into the 2017 NBA Draft.
