The New York Knicks find themselves in the market for a point guard. This comes after reports suggest the team is unlikely to re-sign former MVP Derrick Rose. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves are also openly looking to free agency as a way to upgrade at point guard after trading Ricky Rubio on Friday.

With NBA free agency mere hours away, it now looks like Minnesota may soon find its new starting point guard. That indication comes directly from a Knicks team that’s reportedly giving up on the idea of signing Indiana Pacers veteran Jeff Teague.

There was a report earlier on Friday that Minnesota might be able to land Toronto Raptors All-Star Kyle Lowry. This was all followed with sporadic rumors suggesting that Teague himself might very well land in the Twin Cities.

As it is, nothing can happen on this front until midnight Saturday morning. Should Minnesota quickly land Teague, there’s no reason to believe this team can’t compete for a playoff spot out west next season. Minnesota just recently acquired All-Star guard Jimmy Butler. Add in the presence of Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns, and there’s a whole lot to like here.

Teague. 29, is coming off a 2016-17 campaign that saw him average 15.3 points and 7.8 assists. He was an All-Star for the Atlanta Hawks three years back.
