Report: ‘Growing resignation’ among teams Jrue Holiday will re-sign with Pelicans

Pelicans rumors; Jrue Holiday trade
Russ Isabella-USA TODAY Sports

New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday was expected to be among the top free agent players at his position.

While that might still very well be the case, there’s reportedly concern among other NBA teams that Holiday will ink a lucrative five-year deal with New Orleans quickly after free agency starts.

This would be a rather large boon for New Orleans in free agency. With Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins set to dominate inside next season, the Pelicans need to improve their perimeter game. That would be nearly impossible if they lose Holiday in free agency.

The 27-year-old guard averaged 15.4 points and 7.3 assists while shooting at a 45 percent clip with New Orleans last season. Pure conjecture here, but any five-year deal with the team would likely be of the max-contract variety.
