Report: Bulls waive G Rajon Rondo

Rajon Rondo

The Chicago Bulls made it clear that they were going with the youth movement after sending Jimmy Butler packing to the Minnesota Timberwolves during the 2017 NBA Draft.

That trade led to speculation that Chicago would move on from both Rajon Rondo and Dwyane Wade.

While the Wade situation has yet to be resolved, Chicago has reportedly waived Rondo.

Signed to a two-year, $27.4 million contract last summer, Rondo never panned out in the Windy City.

Continued personality clashes with others led to him being stripped of his starting job during the regular season. In the end, Rondo averaged 7.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game. He also shot at just a 41 percent clip from the field.

By waiving Rondo prior to Saturday’s midnight deadline, the Bulls cut $10-plus million off their 2017-18 cap number. Though, the team is still responsible for paying him $3 million in addition to the $14 million he earned this past season.
