New study: Cowboys have NFL’s best fans, Chiefs fans are worst

Dak Prescott Dallas Cowboys

According to a new study by Emory University, which compiled its annual NFL Fandom Report for 2017, the Dallas Cowboys have the best fans.

That probably comes as little surprise considering the Cowboys are nicknamed “America’s Team.”

Not surprisingly the New England Patriots come in second behind Dallas, followed by the Philadelphia Eagles, New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers to round out the top five.

With that, we’ll sink right to the bottom of the report, conducted by Michael Lewis of Sports Analytics Research. The Kansas City Chiefs surprisingly rank dead last with the worst fanbase in the league.

The Chiefs rank 29th in road game attendance, and their social media following ranks 32nd, per the report. Conversely, the Cowboys rate No. 1 in road game fan attendance and their social media following is second-best in the league.

At the bottom of the study, just above the Chiefs, are the Los Angeles Rams, Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars and Cincinnati Bengals.

Overall, the study was compiled using three sets of metrics consisting of fan equity, social equity and road equity. In the end, this study doesn’t really mean anything. But, it at least makes for an interesting topic to discuss around the water cooler.
