Earl Thomas thought his NFL career was over after breaking leg

Earl Thomas is one of the men who could become the 2017 NFL Comeback Player of the Year

Seattle Seahawks saftey Earl Thomas has had an illustrious seven-year career so far. Up until he broke his leg in Week 13 in 2016, the five-time Pro Bowler had yet to miss a game.

The injury served as a major reality check for the 28 year-old safety, who actually considered retiring. Thomas shared his mindset after fracturing his tibia in that late-season game.

“It’s very different, especially it’s my foundation, my legs,” Thomas said, via Sheil Kapadia of ESPN. “I’m a speedster. So when I initially broke it, I’m like, ‘Dang, my career’s over with.”

Fortunately for Thomas, his fracture did not require surgery. He has been recovering well from the injury and was able to practice with his team during OTAs. He was limited, but head coach Pete Carroll said that Thomas’s recovery process is ahead of schedule, per the report.

Thomas also posted footage of him running on a treadmill earlier in March.

It looks like Thomas is on the road to being fully healthy to begin his eighth season with Seattle. He is a former 14th overall pick by the Seahawks in 2010. The three-time All Pro and one-time Super Bowl champ is signed with the team through the 2018 season.
