Following the acquittal of a police officer charged in the death of Philando Castile in Minnesota, there’s definitely been a renewed conversation in America about police brutality and the justice system.
After nearly a week of deliberations, the jury found Jeronimo Yanez not guilty of all counts in the July 2016 shooting of Castile. The shooting itself took place in a suburb of St. Paul and was caught on video.
Yanez’s acquittal was met with strong condemnation from protesters around the United States. As a man who led a National Anthem protest this past NFL season, free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick took to social media on Friday to speak out against the perception of police brutality.

“A system that perpetually condones the killing of people, without consequence, doesn’t need to be revised, it needs to be dismantled,” Kaepernick wrote on Twitter.
Obviously, this tweet created even more conversation surrounding Kaepernick and his current situation. Despite putting up 18 total touchdowns and just four interceptions last season, the former Super Bowl quarterback remains unemployed. Some believe it has to do with the aforementioned protest he took part in. Others simply don’t think Kaepernick is starter material, which makes it hard for teams to take on the controversy by signing him.
One thing we do know here is that Kaepernick is not going to remain silent. Whether that impacts his ability to latch on to an NFL team remains to be seen.
