Calais Campbell talks up ‘stacked’ Jaguars defense

Calais Campbell Jacksonville Jaguars OTAs

The Jacksonville Jaguars, on paper, have the makings of a very dangerous team, particularly on defense. This is something former Arizona Cardinals defensive end Calais Campbell, acquired in free agency this offseason, is very excited about.

Previously, Campbell said the Jaguars have every piece to the puzzle.

On Thursday, the veteran talked up his defense, noting it is “stacked with talent, especially the D-line.” He also said that young Dante Fowler is the most athletic guy on the field.

Campbell isn’t wrong to be hyped about what he sees the Jaguars building on defense. Adding him to play alongside Fowler, Malik Jackson, Yannick Ngakoue and Sheldon Day up front gives Jacksonville a tremendously dynamic unit to build the defense around.

Behind that front, assuming Myles Jack progresses, the rest of the defense is pretty formidable as well. Especially the secondary, which added safety Tashaun Gipson, Barry Church and A.J. Bouye to play with last year’s first-round pick, stud cornerback Jalen Ramsey.

Really, the only reason we can think of that would hold the Jags back from taking a huge step forward in 2017 is Blake Bortles. He’s the big X-factor. If he cuts down on turnovers (like he knows he must), then the Jaguars will have a real chance to not only post a winning record but perhaps win the AFC South as well.
