Report: Cowboys DE David Irving facing four-game PED ban

Dallas Cowboys defensive end David Irving is facing a four-game ban.

The Dallas Cowboys simply can’t find a way to stay out of trouble off the field. Fresh off a 2016 campaign that saw multiple players suspended for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, the team is facing what could be another big loss to open next season.

According to Mike Fisher of 105.3 The Fan, defensive end David Irving is facing a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s policy against performance enhancing drugs.

“I’m told the result of the test is not yet “official,’’ and that an appeal can be expected. I’m also told Irving is not presently in the NFL drug program … but that a four-game suspension could nevertheless be looming,” Fisher reported.

Considering Dallas remains extremely thin from a pass-rush standpoint, this could potentially hurt the team big time over the first quarter of the season.

Irving, an un-drafted free agent out of Iowa State back in 2015, recorded four sacks in 15 games (two starts last season). That sack total ranked him among the top-four players on the Cowboys.

With former second-round pick Randy Gregory’s career potentially over and after losing both Jack Crawford and Terrell McClain in free agency, the Cowboys are already behind the proverbial eight-ball here. The potential loss of Irving for four games magnifies that even further.
