The Washington Redskins have signed the grandson of legendary reggae musician Bob Marley, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. Nico Marley is a former Tulane linebacker whose father, Rohan Marley, played linebacker as well for the Miami Hurricanes.
A four-year starter for the Green Wave, Marley racked up 319 total tackles, 48.5 tackles for a loss, seven sacks, seven forced fumbles and four interceptions during his college career.
As a senior season in 2016, the 5-foot-8, 200 pounder earned first-team All-American Athletic Conference honors for the second year in a row. It seems unlikely he’ll make the squad as a linebacker, given his size, but perhaps a switch to safety is on the menu.
Marley earned his contract after trying out over the weekend during Washington’s rookie minicamp.
