John Clayton cracks joke after being laid off by ESPN

John Clayton took to Twitter to crack a joke after being laid off by ESPN.

With ESPN since 1995, long-time NFL reporter John Clayton received news that he was the latest victim of layoffs from the sports leader. It’s just the latest example of ESPN cutting its budget as a way to make up for sagging ratings and profits.

In confirming the news on Wednesday, the respected Clayton decided to make a joke in the process. And it was grand.

Clayton remains one of the most-respected reporters in the football world. ESPN’s decision to lay him off was a shock to many who have followed the NFL over the past two-plus decades.

He joins a laundry list of strong talent to be given their walking papers by the cable television empire, including the likes of Chad Ford, Andy Katz and Ed Werder.

At the very least, it looks like Clayton took the news in stride. He’ll definitely land on his feet with another outlet here soon.
