Georgia RB and son of Evander Holyfield arrested on marijuana charges

A four-star recruit last year, running back Elijah Holyfield didn’t see the field a whole heck of a lot as a freshman. He rushed the ball just six times for 29 yards and added one more reception.

Despite this, the expectation has long been that the four-star recruit would end up seeing more action as his career in Athens moved forward. It might not be in 2017 with Nick Chubb returning to the Bulldogs, but Holyfield is an extremely talented running back.

We don’t know the full details yet, but it looks like Hollyfield’s ascension up Georgia’s depth chart might have taken a hit. He was arrested early morning and charged with misdemeanor possession of less than one ounce of marijuana.

“Holyfield was charged with possession and use of drug related objects, and possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, according to the Athens-Clarke County jail web site,” Dawg Nation reported on Monday.

Elijah, the son of former boxing champion Evander Holyfield, is facing a one-game suspension due to Georgia’s school drug policy.

As minor as the infraction might have been, it will still be interesting to watch as the 2017 college football season gets going.
