Former Auburn RB Stephen Davis transferring to South Carolina

Former Auburn RB Stephen Davis Jr. Has found a way to head to South Carolina.

In a bit of SEC gamesmanship, former Auburn running back Stephen Davis Jr has reportedly decided to transfer to the conference-rival South Carolina Gamecocks.

Davis’ father, who goes by the same name, announced the decision just recently (via The State).

The elder Davis played 11 seasons in the NFL, putting up four 1,000-yard campaigns in the process.

One of the most interesting aspects of this announcement is that Auburn had blocked Davis from transferring to another SEC school when he announced his intent to league the program.

So how did the former four-star recruit overcome this hurdle? He has decided to walk-on with the Gamecocks, forgoing what would have been a free ride with a scholarship. Obviously, his father’s long tenure in the NFL helps here.

The younger Davis had a ton of interest coming out of high school, but tore his ACL his senior season. This forced him to redshirt as a freshman.

Davis will have to sit out for the 2017 season and will have three seasons of eligibility once he’s able to join the Gamecock program.
