Former Oregon TE Colt Lyerla escapes Washington correction facility

Colt Lyerla

The tragic tale of Colt Lyerla has taken yet another strange twist. While serving a six-month stint for drug possession at Washington County Community Correction Center, Lyerla has escaped.

According to Tony Hernandez of The Oregonian, “County workers found an open window and an escape in progress. All residents were counted except Lyerla.”

A warrant has been issued for Lyerla’s arrest.

The prison Lyerla escaped from is a minimum-security facility that sits across the street from the county jail, per the report. Most who enter Washington County Community Correction Center (85 percent) end up completing their program there. Because of Lyerla’s escape, he will not be allowed back to this minimum-security facility.

A supremely talented player for the Oregon Ducks, Lyerla’s off-field history is littered with arrests. He was arrested in 2013 for cocaine possession, in 2014 he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and arrested twice this past year on drug and forgery allegations.
