As part of their big jersey sponsorship deal, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Goodyear are donating funds to fund STEM programs at local schools.

The Cavs and Goodyear announced their deal on Monday, and a Goodyear patch will be emblazoned on the upper left portion of Cleveland jerseys starting next season. Though the terms of the deal have yet to be disclosed, it’s previously been reported that it will be anywhere from $5-10 million per season.

Per a news release Monday, $1 million will be donated to support STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) programs in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and Akron Public Schools.

“This is a natural fit between two organizations whose strong brands have a global following,” Goodyear president and CEO Rich Kramer said in the news release (h/t Kevin Kleps of Crain’s Cleveland Business). “Goodyear has always been connected to the Cavs, from our blimp coverage to the tremendous passion of our associates for this team, and we’re excited to make this relationship even stronger.”

Goodyear is an Akron-based company, so it makes sense for this partnership to have come together, and that the two organizations would team up to support local schools.

It’s also not surprising that LeBron James, who is very involved in building up his hometown, is happily on board with this arrangement.

“Every Akron kid grew up seeing the Wingfoot in the sky on the blimp and feeling pride in our community. There is something special for me personally about having that logo on the Cavs’ uniform,” James said. “Goodyear is also very supportive of the LeBron James Family Foundation. I couldn’t imagine a better situation with our new Cavs jersey than bringing together Nike and Goodyear — two companies that mean a lot to me and my family.”
