The New York Yankees are expecting huge things from young catcher Gary Sanchez after he dominated in a cup of team as a rookie last season.
Unfortunately for the rebuilding Yankees, Sanchez’s ascension up the ranks of the game’s best young players might be put on hold here for a little bit.
The 24-year-old catcher exited Saturday’s game against the division-rival Baltimore Orioles with what looked to be a hand injury. It happened as Sanchez fouled off a pitch by Orioles starter Kevin Gausman in the top of the fifth inning.

There’s no official word on Sanchez’s status. Though, the simple fact that he reached for his hand immediately after that awkward swing is most definitely not a good sign.
We’ll have further updates as they become available.
