Respect is a priceless commodity. Some know how to give and receive it, while others do not. We can count new San Francisco 49ers running back Tim Hightower among those who know how to give it after he pledged to have his number changed in light of the team assigning Frank Gore’s No. 21 to him this season.

As many 49ers fans would likely agree, Hightower believes Gore’s No. 21 should be retired by the franchise.

Hightower recently signed with the 49ers after putting up 748 total yards and five touchdowns last year with the New Orleans Saints. A versatile back who averaged 4.8 yards per touch last season, he could carve out quite a nice role in Kyle Shanahan’s running-back friendly offense.

But as he realizes, he’ll never live up to No. 21. Frank “The Inconvenient Truth” Gore. From 2005-14, Gore racked up 11,073 yards (a franchise record) and 64 scores on the ground, adding another 2,883 yards and 11 touchdowns on 342 receptions as a member of the 49ers.
