Veteran Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis will announce the team’s selection during the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft on Thursday. It’s a way for current players to welcome in new blood.
But if the Panthers plan on selecting a linebacker, expect Davis himself to go up to the podium and change the pick.

There’s two bits of good news here for those not wanting drama in Carolina.
First, Thomas is joking.
Second, the Panthers will not be selecting a linebacker with their first pick (eighth overall).
In addition to Thomas, the team boasts former Defensive Player of the Year Luke Kuechly and former first-round pick Shaq Thompson at linebacker.
There’s definitely a scenario in play here where Davis will call out a certain running back with that eighth pick. We’re just not 100 percent sure who the team is targeting when it comes to either Leonard Fournette or Christian McCaffrey.
With the first round set to take place Thursday night, we will find out soon enough.
