Steelers WR Martavis Bryant meets with NFL in attempt to get reinstated

Martavis Bryant

The Pittsburgh Steelers are hoping to get wide receiver Martavis Bryant back from his year-long suspension for his multiple violations of the NFL’s substance abuse policy. It was reported earlier in the spring that Bryant’s reinstatement was imminent. That report was later refuted by the NFL itself.

Now, as Bryant attempts to do everything he can to be reinstated, the troubled receiver just recently met with league management in New York City.

According to Alex Marvez of the Sporting News, this meeting took place on Thursday and was conducted with the NFL’s Management Council. Said council will then give a recommendation to Commissioner Roger Goodell about whether Bryant should be reinstated. Though, a one-on-one meeting between the embattled pass catcher and Goodell will likely take place before a decision is ultimately made.

Bryant, 25, was suspended for the entire 2016 season after once again failing a league-mandated drug test. But when on the field, he’s proven to be a dynamic option for Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh’s offense.

Back in 2015, the former Clemson standout caught 50 passes for 765 yards and six touchdowns. He did so in just 11 game after being suspended for the first quarter of the season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

After watching Markus Wheaton move on to the Chicago Bears in free agency, Pittsburgh will be looking for big things from Bryant this upcoming season. Unfortunately for the team, that possibility remains in the hands of the NFL.
