Adrian Peterson’s visit with the New Orleans Saints has come and gone. According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, no deal is in place.

Peterson had previously met with the New England Patriots and reportedly has a number of teams interested in him.

The Saints make sense, but only to a certain degree. Their running game was mediocre to bad in most meaningful categories in 2016. In general, a weak running attack has contributed to keeping New Orleans down after it won Super Bowl XLIV following the 2009 season.

But the Saints haven’t even made the playoffs since 2013. While there’s some logic in giving Drew Brees a big name running back as he nears the end of his career, a decision to rebuild would also make sense. Investing money in Peterson — a 32-year-old running back — would buck that idea in a big way.
