Rape charges against Ray McDonald dismissed as alleged victim refused to testify

Ray McDonald

Former San Fransisco 49ers and Chicago Bears defensive lineman Ray McDonald had rape charges dismissed Monday because the alleged victim in the case would not testify against him.

“The woman, who had sued McDonald, received a financial settlement of more than $100,000, though it was not immediately clear Monday exactly how much,” wrote Tracey Kaplan of the San Jose Mercury News. “The charges were dismissed Monday morning in Santa Clara County Superior Court by Judge David A. Cena.”

McDonald was released by the 49ers back in 2014 just hours after it was announced he was being investigated for sexual assault.

He was signed by the Chicago Bears in March of 2015 but was released by the franchise two months later after being arrested on domestic violence and child endangerment charges — an incident that occurred while his ex-wife was holding their infant child.

He has been out of the NFL since that time.
