LaDainian Tomlinson picks old FB Lorenzo Neal to present him to HOF

LaDainian Tomlinson

As electric and dynamic a running back we’ve seen in generations, LaDainian Tomlinson is being enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame this summer.

All his accomplishments, which are many, weren’t the result of a singular effort, however, which is something he clearly recognizes. As a way to honor one of the men responsible for his success, Tomlinson is having his old San Diego Chargers teammate, fullback Lorenzo Neal, present him to the Hall of Fame.

Tomlinson announced this decision via the Pro Football HOF on Twiter.

Neal was Tomlinson’s fullback between 2003-07, which just so happen to represent the most successful seasons of the running back’s legendary career. In those five seasons, Tomlinson rushed for 7,731 yards (leading the NFL in rushing in 2006 and 2007) and tallied 91 touchdowns on the ground (leading the NFL in 2004, 2006 and 2007).

That’s a stunning average of 1,546 yards and 18-plus touchdowns rushing per season. The pinnacle of Tomlinson’s career came in 2006, when he rushed for 1,815 yards and an astonishing 28 scores.

Neal had a lot to do with his success as a battering ram to spring Tomlinson on many a long run. Needless to say, the former running back turned NFL Network analyst appreciates all the grunt work his old fullback did for him.
