Linebacker James Laurinaitis took to Twitter Tuesday to announce his retirement from the NFL after eight seasons.

Originally a second-round pick out of Ohio State by the then-St. Louis Rams in 2009, Laurinaitis stepped into their starting lineup immediately and started 112 straight games. After the 2015 NFL season concluded, he signed a three-year deal with the New Orleans Saints but suffered a quad injury that landed him on injured reserve.

Over the course of his career, Laurinaitis tallied 870 tackles, 16.5 sacks, 10 interceptions, one forced fumble and nine fumble recoveries. He also holds the distinction as the leading tackler in Rams history.
