Jaguars LB calls out players who charge kids for camp

Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Telvin Smith is not a happy camper. It doesn’t have anything to do with his team struggling through a three-win 2016 campaign, though Smith himself can’t be too happy about that.

Instead, Smith is directing his ire at fellow NFL players that charge children money to attend their summer camps.

Here’s the former Florida State linebacker going off on a social media post earlier this week.

As you can tell, he’s not too happy about fees being charged to families of children who simply can’t afford to drop $100-plus in hard-earned cash.

“I keep saying robbing these kids because I feel that’s what we’re doing,” Smith later told ESPN. “We’re in the NFL. We’re in a multibillion corporation. You can write that off on your taxes, but you’re charging these kids? There’s no part of it that’s right.”

We’ve seen other professional athletes make the same point here. Even those who are not earning in the eight figures each year should be able to find it within themselves to offer this community service for free.

Smith, a fifth-round pick of the Jaguars back in 2014, surely gets this. Good for him.
