Isaiah Thomas had the tall task of giving the eulogy at his sister’s funeral on Saturday. As he’s done since the news of her untimely passing rocked the NBA world the Boston Celtics guard handled his grief with uncommon class and dignity.

This was highlighted in the words of his coach, Brad Stevens, on Sunday.

During the eulogy, Thomas revealed his innermost thoughts during those dark hours after he found out that his sister, Chyna Thomas, had passed away in a single-car accident.

Thomas hasn’t missed a game during the playoffs. He took the court in Game 1 of Boston’s first-round series against the Chicago Bulls, despite the fact that he was sobbing on the sideline during warmups and was obviously overcome with emotion even as the game progressed.

He hasn’t quit. He’s pushed through his personal pain to honor his late sister. It’s been an inspirational scene to witness, and it speaks to the quality of person Thomas is that he’s been able to face this struggle in such a public manner with such character and dignity.
