Head of NFL Referees Association blasts NFL celebration penalties

NFL celebration penalties, Antonio Brown

The head of the NFL Referees Association isn’t a fan of having to enforce NFL celebration penalties, which is a point of contention right now in general.

Speaking on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Scott Green revealed the mind of the folks responsible for making these calls on game days.

“Nothing is worse than someone going 80 yards for a touchdown and then we’re trying to figure out does that warrant a flag for what he’s doing in the end zone,” Green said, per Alex Marvez of Sporting News. “We don’t really enjoy that.”

Of course, we’re 100 percent positive the players agree wholeheartedly with Green on this subject. The won’t, however, agree with his solution.

“If we could get to a point where it would simply be fines by the league, that would be great. The issue we’ll still have is that guys can get pretty creative out there. The question of whether it’s a foul or not a foul, hopefully we’ll get closer to more of a black-and-white situation.”

The NFL is looking into potentially relaxing these rules, but at this time this issue has been tabled.
