Pedro Guerrero, former MLB outfielder and All-Star with the Los Angeles Dodgers and St. Louis Cardinals, is reportedly in a fight for his life.
“Former Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Pedro Guerrero battles for his life at a hospital in New York, his stepdaughter Jessica Mora told ESPN Digital on Monday,” Enrique Rojas of ESPN reported. “Mora, 27, reported from the hospital that Guerrero suffered the second stroke in recent years Monday afternoon and was taken to the hospital, where he was connected to a machine. The doctors told the family that the former player was fighting against the odds, but he was still alive past midnight.”
A later report said that Guerrero’s condition is improving, though he’s still in a coma.
Guerrero played with the Dodgers from 1978-1988. There, he was a part of the 1981 World Series team, sharing series MVP honors with teammates Ron Cey and Steve Yeager.
He was traded to the Cardinals during the 1988 season and remained in St. Louis until his career ended in 1992. Guerrero made five All-Star teams during his career (1981, 1983, 1985, 1987 and 1989). He finished his career with 215 career home runs and a .300 batting average.
Sadly, strokes are not new to Guerrero. He also suffered from one in 2015. Guerrero is 60.
