Report: Minnesota Twins release Ryan Vogelsong

Ryan Vogelsong

According to Mike Beradino of the Pioneer Press, the Minnesota Twins have released pitcher Ryan Vogelsong.

Beradino also tweeted Twins Manager Paul Molitor “stressed how generous Vogelsong was in camp with younger players and was behind several others in the rotation battle.” He also added Vogelsong’s velocity “lagged.”

Vogelsong has 12 major league seasons under his belt which include an All-Star spot and two World Series championships with the San Francisco Giants.

He was inked to a minor league deal over the offseason and was battling for a roster spot. His high ERA and low velocity could make it difficult for him to find another job, so it’ll be interesting to see where the 39-year-old ends up.

He leaves the Twins organization (and perhaps baseball) with a career 4.48 ERA across two teams.

With the latest transaction, the Twins reassigned RHPs Jake Reed and Raul Fernandez to minor league camp.
