Pelicans G Jrue Holiday pledges support to New Orleans following tornadoes

It’s really cool to see professional athletes combine their on-field performance with charity work around their communities. We have seen this multiple times in the NBA with players donating specific amounts of cash to help those impacted by natural disasters.

New Orleans Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday will do just this. In helping lend a hand to those impacted by the series of tornadoes that hit the New Orleans area last month, Holiday will donate $1,000 per every point he scores and assist he dishes out against the San Antonio Spurs on Friday evening.

That’s a tremendous show of compassion from Holiday. It also speaks to just how important the local New Orleans community is to the former first-round pick.

A total of 33 people were injured, six seriously, when a serious of tornadoes swept through the New Orleans area back in February. The scene was one of utter chaos. Estimated damage from the natural disaster currently stands at over $2.7 million.

No offense to the Spurs, but let’s hope Holiday drops 50 points and 25 assists in Friday’s game.
