Mike Tomlin won’t comment on Darrelle Revis potentially joining Steelers

Darrelle Revis

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was asked a number of questions about Darrelle Revis on Tuesday. However, he remained mum about the free agent cornerback potentially joining his team.

Per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the one thing Tomlin would say is that he has “great respect” for Revis. But he wouldn’t comment about his status as a free agent in relationship to the Steelers.

Revis was recently asked if he’d be interested in playing for his hometown Steelers, and he enthusiastically said he was. However, shortly afterwards a report emerged that indicated Pittsburgh wouldn’t be amenable to such a move.

Pittsburgh does need secondary help. But one wonders how much more Revis has to give at this point in his career. He was broken down physically last year — something he readily admitted — and also put together some horrid tape in terms of pure effort (watch here).

The only team that has really been mentioned as a potential fit for Revis since he was released by the New York Jets is the New England Patriots. But that prospect isn’t looking great either, as the two parties reportedly haven’t even discussed a reunion to this point.

Originally a first-round pick out of Pitt in 2007 by the Jets, the cornerback who once owned his own island now could have a hard time finding a home at all in the NFL this year.
