Doc Rivers makes funny Trump reference about defending John Wall

Doc Rivers

We’re going to build a wall and keep Washington Wizards out. That, more or less, was the sentiment expressed by Los Angeles Clippers head coach Doc Rivers on Tuesday morning when the OC Register’s Bill Oram asked him about defending Wizards guards John Wall and Bradley Beal.

Aware of the reference, Rivers noted “I’m not trying to be corny, but you do have to build a wall.” Eventually, after batting around exactly how to refer to this wall, Rivers settled on calling it a “D” fence.

Unless Rivers was talking about a wall in Stan Van Gundy’s sense of the word, it’s tough to discern exactly what he meant in terms of basketball strategy here.

Presumably it had to do with stopping Wall and Beal from getting to the rim, but talking about a “D” fence isn’t exactly the clearest way to express that strategy. Presumably, we’ll find out Wednesday when the two teams face off in a must-win game for the Clippers, who are in danger of slipping further down the Western Conference standings.
