Report: Kings looking to make deals, Darren Collison and Kostas Koufos on the block

Darren Collison

The Sacremento Kings are currently 20-32 and 11th in the Western Conference, so of course, it makes sense that they’re considering becoming big-time sellers in the lead up to the 2017 NBA Trade Deadline.

Superstar power forward DeMarcus Cousins would obviously net the Kings the biggest return in a trade scenario, but GM Vlade Divac recently came out and said that a trade with Cousins is not on the table. Instead, the Kings are working on a maximum contract to keep Cousins in Sacremento for a very long time — with a very large paycheck (more on that here).

That doesn’t mean the Kings won’t move other players, though, one of which is Darren Collison. The other, according to Steve Kyler of Basketball Insiders, is Kostas Koufos. Both are potentially on the trading block, per Kyler.

Collison is in his eighth NBA season out of UCLA, and he’s had a very solid campaign for Sacremento so far averaging 13.1 points, 4.0 assists and two rebounds per game. He may not be a superstar, but he’s an extremely solid player who would be a nice pickup for a team looking for some help at point guard.

Koufos is another reliable veteran who would be an interesting pickup for a team needing help at center. He’s a big body at 7-foot, 265 pounds, and he’s averaged 6.3 points and 5.4 rebounds so far this season for the Kings.

Collison and Koufos may not have the value of Cousins, but that doesn’t mean the Kings couldn’t get some nice pieces back in return for either, or both, players.
