Once the New York Giants moved on from former Pro Bowl receiver Victor Cruz earlier this week, it didn’t take long for reports to surface that the Denver Broncos might be interested in his services. In fact, one report suggested they were working on a meeting (more on that here).

It made some sense. With Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders performing well on the outside, adding someone of Cruz’s ilk to play in the slot would do wonders for this team.

Unfortunately for those looking at this as a real possibility, it’s being reported that the Broncos have not discussed the possibility of bringing Cruz on.

After missing nearly two full years following a horrible torn patella injury he suffered back in October of 2014, Cruz returned to the Giants this past season. Though, it became readily apparent that said injury stripped him of his elite play-making ability. Cruz would go on to record 39 receptions for 586 yards while catching just 54 percent of the passes thrown in his direction.

It remains to be seen just how much interest the veteran will receive in free agency. It was good news that at least one team was reportedly showing interest early in the process. Now that it might have proven to be a false alarm, Cruz and his camp go back to the drawing board.
