Report: Rockies close to deal with closer Greg Holland

Veteran reliever Greg Holland has been among the most-dominating closers in the game over the past several seasons. Since the start of the 2012 campaign, the two-time All-Star has recorded 141 saves.

Despite this, there seemed to be minimal interest in his services on the free agent market.

It now looks like his drawn-out presence on said market will be coming to a conclusion here soon. According to multiple reports, the Colorado Rockies are close to signing Holland.

Colorado has had itself a nice little offseason, adding the likes of Ian Desmond to the mix. They now have an elite-level closer at the back end of the team’s bullpen.

In addition to finding himself among baseball’s top closers in terms of saves, the 31-year-old Holland has been simply dominating from a statistical perspective.

Prior to last season’s somewhat down performance, Holland recorded 10-plus strikeouts per nine innings in each of his first five years in the Majors. Back in 2015, he posted 13 K’s per nine while putting up a 0.91 WHIP and 1.44 ERA for the World Series champion Royals.
