Talk about getting water from a rock. Less than a year after picking up Dan Straily off waivers from the San Diego Padres, the Cincinnati Reds have reportedly flipped the veteran starter to the Miami Marlins for three prospects.

Straily, 28, is coming off a rebound performance this past season. He posted a 14-8 record with a 3.76 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 34 games (31 starts) for the Reds. This came on the heels of the starter struggling in his previous two seasons after he jumped on to the scene with the Oakland Athletics back in 2013.
The move definitely fills a need for a Marlins team that added veteran Edinson Volquez to the rotation during free agency earlier in the winter. Straily figures to slot in as Miami’s N0. 4 starter.
It’s rather interesting that the Marlins would give up three prospects to acquire a player that was on the waiver wire less than a calendar year ago. Among the names headed to Cincinnati in the deal, 24-year-old starter Luis Castillo posted a 2.26 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP in two Minor League stops last season.
