Ozzie Newsome on Terrell Suggs: Ravens ‘expect him to be back’ in 2017

Terrell Suggs is fully expected to return to the Baltimore Ravens for his 15th NFL season in 2017, general manager Ozzie Newsome told reporters Tuesday.

Coming off an Achilles injury suffered in 2015, Suggs started 15 games for Baltimore this past season, tallying eight sacks and three forced fumbles. That kind of production is remarkable for a guy whose come back from two Achilles injuries in the latter stages of his career.

Throughout his 14 years in the NFL, all spent with the Ravens, the former No. 10 overall pick out of Arizona State has been a consistent force off the edge throughout his career. With 114.5 sacks, 28 forced fumbles, seven interceptions and 539 career tackles, he’ll finish his career as a legend in Baltimore, having been a part of a Super Bowl team along the way.

The Ravens need to bring in some young pass rushers this year so that the wealth of knowledge and experience Suggs brings to the table can be passed on to the next generation of Ravens defenders. He’s signed through the 2018 season, so theoretically he could play until he’s 36 years old, though with a cap hit of $6.95 million both years, that will depend on his production in 2017.
